- Experimental Quantum Attack to QKD
- Interesting article published in Physical Review A by Kim. et al. on an experiment of a quantum attack to QKD. The results are in agreement with the theory, contrary to what it would seem to come from the article on Nature.

- Free Space QKD at 144 km
- At the March 2007 meeting of the American Physical Society has been presented the result of an experiment to create QKD secret keys in free space at a distance of 144 km, this could be the first step towards ground to satellite QKD.

- UPDATE: Oh my.. Cisco bugs!
- Everybody tells me that there is no reason to worry. Very well! -- Cisco has announced (good!) some bugs for all versions of IOS, the OS of their routers. Unfortunately at first sight it looks as a very serious problem: how many will upgrade the OS? How many will put countermeasures (which are not easy and in some cases impossible)?

- NIST announces Draft Requirements and Evaluation Criteria for New Hash Algorithms
- NIST Wants Comments on Proposed Hash Algorithm Requirements and Evaluation Criteria
The National Institute of Standards and Technology is planning a competition to develop one or more cryptographic hash algorithms to augment and revise the current Secure Hash Standard (Federal Information Processing Standard 180-2). As a first step in this process, NIST is publishing draft minimum acceptability requirements, submission requirements, and evaluation criteria for candidate algorithms (See the Federal Register Announcement on http://www.nist.gov/hash-function), and requests public comment by April 27, 2007. - IEEE P1619 abandons LRW
- On August 30, 2006 the IEEE P1619 group which is writing the standard on bulk disk encryption has abandoned the LRW mode because of some weaknesses and has substituted it with the mode XTS-AES (see also my article Attacchi ai FileSystem Cifrati, ICTSecurity-2006-46).
